In today’s slow growth economy, it’s critical to attract new and retain existing customers. Business analytics helps companies reach unique insights into its target markets, competition and customer management operations. Often, firms with a strong analytics bent uncover business opportunities and exploit them before the competition. The challenge though is to identify business processes that are clearly strategic and can lead to measurable business development improvements. And, it involves more than implementing a business intelligence software package. Along with an investment in technology, changes in culture, process, behavior, and skills for all employees are frequently required. Such changes must be lead by senior executives with a passion for analytics and fact-based decision making. Without the push from top, it’s rare to find a firm making the cultural changes necessary to become an analytical competitor.
